Dental implants look and function like natural teeth.
Dental implants prevent bone loss that occurs around the missing tooth.
Unlike dentures that slide down, dental implants function like your own teeth, allowing you to eat your food comfortably.
Dental implants offer a higher success rate compared to other teeth replacement options.
Your dentist can help you decide if a dental implant is right for you. You are a good candidate if you have the following:
Your dentist will surgically place the implant into your jawbone. You may experience some swelling and tenderness after the surgery. Your dentist may prescribe pain medication to ease the pain and discomfort. A soft diet may be recommended during the healing process.
The healing process
Dental implants can take several months to finish because most of the time is devoted to a process called osseointegration. This allows the implant to become a permanent part of your jaw.
Replacing the missing tooth
Your dentist will order a custom-made tooth for you, called a dental crown. The size, shape, and color of your new tooth will blend with your natural teeth. Once the new custom tooth is ready, your dentist will attach it to the implant post.
