Replacing a missing tooth can look and feel real, thanks to dental implants. Dental implants are replacement tooth roots made of titanium and other materials that provide a permanent base for replacement teeth. Because they fit, feel, and function like natural teeth, dental implants are becoming a popular choice for tooth replacement.
What are the advantages of dental implants?
There are many benefits associated with dental implants which include:
- Beautiful smile: Dental implants look and function like natural teeth.
- Prevents bone loss: Dental implants prevent bone loss that occurs around the missing tooth.
- Easier chewing: Unlike dentures that slide down, dental implants function like your own teeth, allowing you to eat your food comfortably.
- Durability: Dental implants offer a higher success rate compared to other teeth replacement options. A well planned and cared for dental implant can last a lifetime.
Am I a good candidate for dental implants?
Dr. Kim can help you decide if a dental implant is right for you. You are a good candidate if you have the following:
- Adequate bone width and height to support implanted teeth
- Good general and oral health
- Commitment to taking care of implanted teeth
Not everyone can benefit from dental implants. Here are the contraindications for dental implants:
- Cigarette smoker
- Poor oral hygiene
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Osteoporosis or other bone disorders
What to expect during the procedure
Dental implant surgery is an outpatient surgery that includes multiple steps. Some implants may require 2-3 appointments and can take many months to complete. Your dentist can help you develop a plan that works for you.
3d guided implant placement
Dr. Kim will place the implant using 3d surgery guide. The implant procedure is planned with the help of a 3d software. The 3d software allows your dentist to determine the ideal position and size of the implant without having to do flap surgery and sutures. This minimally-invasive technique lowers pain and promotes faster healing after the implant placement. The data created from the software is transferred to a 3d surgical guide that will guide Dr. Kim to accurately place your dental implants.
The healing process
Dental implants can take several months to finish because most of the time is devoted to a process called osseointegration. This allows the implant to become a permanent part of your jaw.
Once osseointegration is complete, your dentist may perform a minor surgery to attach the abutment to the dental implant. The abutment is a piece where your crown is attached. After the abutment is placed, your gums need time to heal before your new tooth can be attached.
Replacing the missing tooth
Dr. Kim will order a custom-made tooth for you, called a dental crown. The size, shape, and color of your new tooth will blend with your natural teeth. Once the new custom tooth is ready, Dr. Kim will attach it to the implant post.
Taking care of dental implants
The success of your implant depends highly on good oral hygiene and regular dentist visits. You need to ensure that the area around the implant is clean. Dental implants are like your natural teeth and require daily brushing and flossing.
How much are dental implants?
The cost of dental implants varies depending on the number of teeth being replaced and your insurance coverage. You can book a free implant consultation at our office to get a quote on the procedure. During your free dental implant consultation, our dental team will work with you to discuss the cost of your treatment plan upfront. You can be sure that there are no secret fees.
How can I pay for my dental implants?
First Dental Care accepts all PPO dental insurance plans. You can take a look at our Financial Options page to see if your insurance is in-network. Payment in cash, check, and card is also accepted at our practice. We also offer financing options because we understand that not having dental insurance or full coverage on procedures may prevent you from getting the dental implant that you need. I’ve been trying to find the perfect place to go get my teeth checked for years now and I have finally hit the jack pot. I was extremely nervous during my first visit and a little embarrassed due to the fact that I haven’t been to the dentist in awhile, but DR Douglas and his wonderful staff were extremely caring and reassured me that I had nothing to worry about. I needed some work done and Dr Douglas did such an amazing job on my teeth!! Not only are my teeth nice and clean, but he did a amazing job fixing my my baby tooth as well. I feel like a brand new person with a beautiful smile. I’m so happy I found this place!!! I will definitely tell all my family and friends about First Dental Care!!!
Oh boy where do I begin… hahaha I LOVE FIRST DENTAL!!
I know the thought of getting your wisdom teeth/tooth may be terrifying and watching Youtube videos of the surgery does not help… LOL but to be honest, watching the videos did not bother me much and the process was a piece of cake. I was very fortunate to have Dr. Harold Choi perform my extractions. HE IS THE GREATEST. Did I mention he was theeeeee best hahaa ;)!!!
I came in for the typical consultation and I was informed of the procedure and the medical staff(s) answered any questions I had and I also received information on post-operative care.
I chose to do the local anesthesia, cause going under general anesthesia scares me (personally, I will NEVER choose to do it this way) and the process took no longer than 15-20 mins and I was up and going after the surgery :)) I had two impacted, full bony wisdom teeth extracted and I am glad they are gone.
Also, the medical staff here are personable, down to earth, and most of all caring 🙂 Makes me feel at home lol (all in seriousness)
